ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN | Master Design Project | Connecting the Dots | Berlin
The abandoned site of the unused and decayed power plant Rummelsburg is located in the east of Berlin directly at the river Spree, only some train stations away from Ostkreuz and Ostbahnhof. The context is industrial and cut off from the city by train tracks that are located north of the site. On the opposite southern site of the river, the abandoned and decayed fairground “Spreepark” waits for its reactivation after a change of owners.
The research topics of the experimental design project are information-based concept development and Big Data in architecture.
The aim of the design project is to systematically research and connect data to develop a bold statement about the site and its context as well as current social, political and economic topics to work out potentials for the urban situation and a reasonable and useful visionary future-proof architectural concept and solution for a possible use.
Diagrammatic rework of researched and collected information and its transformation into design processes and concepts with help of infographics, diagrams, node-networks, notations and experimental drawing systems - analog and with digital tools - link and interconnect information to distill a validated position.
Based on the individual research and the development of a personal program, concept and strategy for the site, the range of projects reaches from experimental housing, startup hubs, creative think tanks to qualification centres for refugees and visionary school-concepts.
